The Warp Gate at a Glance

History

Opened by Stephen Parello in 2020, The Warp Gate brings together players from all backgrounds and of various games in the Columbus, Ohio area. The name, "Warp Gate" is a direct reference to the miniatures game, Warhammer, which provides a portal where all entities can flow in and out of the Immaterium. This LGS focuses on creating a welcoming community for all player types and all games. As announced at the store, later in 2024, The Warp Gate will be expanding by moving to a new and larger location, hosting more than 120 players.

Working alongside the tournament organizer, Rob Wilson of Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy (BCDL), we successfully hyped up BCDL 13, ensuring that the event sold out. Two Foil Bug hats were randomly awarded as door prizes to Jose Ramos and Gabriel Ebady. In a packed house of 64 players, Legacy competitors came from all over the Midwest to fight for the title of BCDL Champion, and having their own name etched into an impressive trophy.

Formats

At The Warp Gate, the main formats are Legacy, Modern, and Commander. It also supports other formats, depending on the demand from the player base.

Inventory

Much of the extensive inventory featured in the cases include Eternal and Commander singles. The available cards start from the high end of dual lands all the way through Modern staples. Their massive selection of sealed product dates back to Dark Ascension and forward. They even have a direct partnership with Dragon Shield. Outside of Magic, there's a heavy influence of Warhammer hobby supplies, so plenty of paints, miniatures, and other accessories.

Food Options

Nearby, there is City Barbecue and a standard Chinese food restaurant for quick eats. For more of a sit down restaurant for dinner out, the locals suggest checking out Blue Santa Cantina for Mexican dishes including nachos and ceviche.

Transportation

The current location is located right off of I-270. Later in July/August of 2024, the new location will still be in Columbus, but at the intersection of Henderson & Kenny, off of I-315. It's highly recommended to get around Ohio by car, or via Uber if necessary.
